Camden is renowned for the beauty of its harbor, the serenity of its surroundings and the generosity of its people.
The town has an approximate population of 5,250 people. Camden is located three hours from Boston and 1 1/2 hours
from Portland by car. The commercially-serviced airport in Rockland is 20 minutes from Portlaw.
Camden's charm has not gone unnoticed. The town's harbor was recently named the most beautiful in
Maine by Down East magazine. Movies, such as Carousel (1956), Peyton Place (1957) and In the Bedroom (2001),
and a soap opera, Passions, have been filmed in Camden.
Camden's Public Library is a renowned resource for information and learning, and is located adjacent
to two historically-recognized parks: the Camden Amphitheater, which was designed by Fletcher Steele, and the
Camden Harbor Park, which was designed by the Olmstead Brothers.
The town is home to The Camden Conference, an annual public affairs conference, and the Pop!Tech
conference. Camden also hosts the annual U.S. National Toboggan Championships at the town-owned Camden Snow Bowl.
